Silver panel from Adolf Hitler presentation picture frame from the Reichschancellery in Berlin. This silver bottom panel has the Eagle facing right w/swastika in the talons and flanked by A and H. The edge has the Bruckmann “Greek Key” design. This piece was taken from the burning Reichschancellery prior the war’s end by a Russian soldier who traded it to a German photographer, Heinz Ahrens, who was from Lubeck, Germany. Ahrens was permitted to accompany the Swedish Red Cross and the “White Busses” brigade into Berlin to repatriate Swedish citizens back to Sweden via the seaport of Lubeck. Ahrens’ photographs can be seen in the book, “Escape from the Third Reich” which chronicles the efforts of Count Bernadotte and the Swedish Red Cross and the “White Busses“ brigade. The mission to Berlin where this item was acquired was most likely the last mission of mercy of this group. I personally acquired this piece from the grandson of Heinz Ahrens who resides in Goteburg, Sweden. As Adolf Hitler presentation picture frames are extremely scarce, this is the closest thing to owning one and at modest price.
